A.1 In the light of the Akk. cognate ekēlu, חכלילי conveys ‘a dark or a dark red’ colour. In its only extant occurrence it describes the dark colour of a person’s eyes resulting from the liberal consumption of wine. This lexeme appears to have a restrictive syntagmatic usage.
