A.1 In Isa 10:12 Spronk wishes to read פארור for תפארת ‘glory, splendour’ (Spronk 1997:104). In that case it describes the colour of the Assyrian king’s haughty eyes (רום עיניו). In Spronk’s judgement פארור fits the syntagm better than תפארת. This reconstruction is not accepted due to the lack of textual and linguistic support.
7. Conclusion
A.1 In Scripture פארור occurs twice, both times in the idiom קִבֵּץ פארור, which has the sense of either ‘blush, become red’ or ‘grow pale’. In this phrase פארור references the ‘pinkish’ colour of human complexion.
